D-E Debate has had a series of successes thus far this academic year. The very first tournament resulted in a team sweep! In the speaker awards Sam Golub ’17 won first place, Jacob Waxman ’17 won second place, and Austin Metzger ’18 won third place. Sam and Jacob also won honors as the first place team. Science faculty member and Debate Team advisor Tara Weinstein noted, “This year the topic is China, with a focus on the degree to which the US government should ‘substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic.’” The Upper School had the opportunity to observe D-E Debate in action at the annual Varsity Meet hosted on the D-E campus in early December. Roxy Pylypiv ’17 and Austin Metzger ’18 placed first as a team, and Austin and Sam Golub ’17 won second and third place honors, respectively, as speakers.
