Faculty, Staff & Trustee Dinner

In the final weeks of each school year, D-E faculty, staff and members of the Board of Trustees gather for a celebratory dinner to honor exceptional teaching, milestone years of service, and retirees. This year’s faculty honorees are featured here. Congratulations also to honored retiree and Director of the Office of MultiCultural Affairs Clinton Carbon, who will be specially featured in the upcoming Fall/Early Winter 2016 issue of D-E Today.

Kindergarten teacher Timothy Coyne was one of two recipients of the 2016 Blackwell Award, recognizing “a member of the D-E faculty in the early stages of his or her teaching career, whose pursuit of excellence in teaching, commitment to life-long learning, and great promise reflect passion for education that exemplifies the career of former teacher and administrator Rebecca Blackwell.”

Alexander Russell-Walker was named as the recipient of the Sloan Fellowship, a biennial award given in honor of Dr. Ralph Sloan, former headmaster.

Middle School English teacher Giselle Winters was honored as the recipient of the 2016 Williams Award for Creative Excellence, given in recognition of a “member of the faculty who demonstrates creative excellence in his or her discipline.” Joining Dr. De Jarnett to present the award was Charles Williams, parent of Geoffrey ’99, in memory of Charles’ parents who greatly valued education during their lifetime.

Danny Carragher, Ph.D., received the 2016 Carskadon Award, honoring “full time members of the faculty who have taught at D-E for at least three years and who have enriched the lives of their students and colleagues through their devotion to the art and skill of teaching.” Dr. Carragher teaches psychology in the Upper School.

Diane Christian, a member of the English Department faculty, received the Geralyn Kossmann Award, established in memory of Geralyn Kossmann, beloved nurse and assistant athletic director at D-E.  Joining Dr. De Jarnett to present the award to Diane were Cynthia Kossmann Wilkinson ’80 and her father Dr. Richard Kossmann.
