Sip & Savor a Huge Success

The Hajjar STEM Center was transformed into a buzzing center of culinary innovation and, later, an auction house and Manhattan club scene during the Sip & Savor special fundraising event, held March 5. The first gathering of its kind to take place on the D-E campus was, by all accounts, a fantastic experience.Item13AChefMarcDETodaySpring2016

Sip & Savor featured Chef Marc Forgione as the guest of honor at a pre-event VIP Champagne Reception. Among his many achievements, Chef Forgione was crowned the winner in 2010 of the Next Iron Chef TV show on The Food Network. During Sip & Savor, Chef Forgione spoke about his fascinating career, including growing up in the kitchens of his father, the famed American cuisine restaurateur Larry Forgione; his experience earning a Michelin star (also in 2010); and the excitement and logistical convenience of opening a new restaurant (American Cut) in Englewood, NJ. He then autographed his recently released cookbook.

Guests were treated to opportunities to bid on silent and live auction items, with Fox News commentator (and D-E parent) Vipp Jaswal gamely taking on the responsibilities of auctioneer. The event ended with guests dancing in the Taub Innovation Center and hanging out on the Massoud Steps, enjoying real-time event photo uploads to the huge plasma screen.

“We were thrilled to confirm that Sip & Savor raised more than $154,000 with 275 guests in attendance,” said Special Events Director Bea Movsesian. “The best selling items from the Live Auction, both of which resulted in quick bidding wars, were reserved seats and parking spaces for both Commencement 2016 and 2017, and tickets to the critically acclaimed Broadway show Hamilton. Our dedicated, creative team of volunteers went far ‘above and beyond’ to organize a night to remember for foodies and oenophiles alike. Best of all, the net proceeds from this event go to professional development funds directly tied to following through on our D-E School mission.”

Movsesian also gave thanks and credit to the volunteers and the chefs and restaurants, catering organizations, and beverage companies that participated in Sip & Savor and helped to ensure the event’s success.
