Alumni Regional Gatherings

Building on the momentum from alumni gatherings at D-E and around the New York metro area that took place earlier this year, the Alumni Relations Department (with more than a little help from some friends) hosted more events on campus, in Englewood, and around the country.

In early February, Head of School Dr. De Jarnett, Director of Advancement Pat Boig, and Alumni Relations Director Maria Sanchez Gardner ’78 made a westward trek for a series of events in California, including a party at the beautiful Studio City home of Lara and Jeff Bushell ’90; lunch at Nick’s Restaurant in Laguna Beach, and a happy hour at the University Club of San Francisco.

Later that same month another set of gatherings was organized at D-E ‘hot spots’ in Florida. Amy and Jim Frank ’78 graciously hosted alumni in their home in Palm Beach, and lunch receptions were held at the Cascata Grill in Aventura, Cobalt’s Restaurant in Vero Beach, and Todd English’s Bluezoo in the Dolphin Hotel in the Orlanda metro area.

Upon her return to D-E, Maria Sanchez Gardner commented, “The excitement of the School’s 125th birthday year was evident in the wonderful turnouts and high spirits at each of these gatherings! Our alumni enjoyed catching up with each other, reminiscing, and making new connections.”

Additionally, in a new alumni outreach effort organized by Clinton Carbon, Director of the Office of MultiCultural Affairs (OMA) and Dean of Student Activities Maya Gunaseharan ’08, a special reception for African American/Black graduates was held in early May in the Imperatore Library. In Carbon’s words, “In this our 125th year, we seek to acknowledge these individuals’ legacies as African American/Black graduates, share updates on the current Dwight-Englewood School, and encourage the sharing of stories [between] African American/Black alumni of our institution…”

And to top it all off, D-E’s big birthday party weekend, which included the 125th Anniversary Gala (James please add a link here to that relevant Post) and Commencement 2014 (James add a link here to that relevant Post) was given a preliminary boost by a happy hour at The Bicycle Club in Englewood.

The photos collage below doesn’t fully capture the ‘great vibes’ felt during all of these alumni parties. Suffice it to say, based on this experience the likelihood of future, similar events is very high. And to all who helped to organized and/or attend these events, thank you! We look forward to welcoming you back AND having the opportunity for you to welcome D-E to your area.
