Isabel Guerriero ’15 Completes D-E Field Hockey Career

Senior Isabel Guerriero ‘15 just finished an illustrious field hockey career at D-E, which was recently capped off by the First Team All-County Athlete Award she received, for the second year in a row, on Dec. 4. The captain – since her sophomore year – Isabel was also a First Team Non-Public selection by the North Jersey Field Hockey Coaches Association (NJFHCA); The Record’s 2014 All-North team; and The Star-Ledger’s Third Team All-Non-Public.

Here are Isabel’s season highlights, as reported in The Record: “Guerriero, one of the top two-way center/midfielders in the area, finished with 18 goals and four assists and was 2-for-3 on penalty strokes, with two defensive saves. Guerriero set a school record with five goals [she also had one assist] in a 6-0 victory over Hackensack in early September.”

“She has had a great career for us!” said Field Hockey coach Kimberle Franco of Isabel, who played in the NJFHCA Senior All-Star Game for field hockey at Montclair State University on Dec. 7 (pictured above with Field Hockey Coach Michelle Carstens).

At the All-County Athlete Awards dinner, Bergen County Field Hockey Tournament Director Rich Smith presented these remarks from Coach Franco on Isabel and her time as a Bulldog:

“Isabel Guerriero is an all-around player who anchored the Bulldogs from the center-midfield position and excelled both offensively and defensively. Isabel can be regarded as one of the most dangerous midfielders in the area because of her finishing ability. A two-time team captain and all-county selection,… Isabel finishes her career with 27 goals and seven assists, once again leading the team in all scoring (goals, assists, total points).

“Isabel possesses the skills needed to take control of any game: strong defensive skills, quick transition play and the desire to take the big shot. Her work ethic, elimination skills, strength and intensity separate her from others. I have not seen a kid at the high school level work as hard as she does. That’s why she catches your eye on the field. She’s everywhere that she’s supposed to be.

“Her strong leadership and gritty work ethic was instrumental to the resurgence of the Dwight-Englewood field hockey program. The highlight of the season for Isabel was a five-goal performance against Hackensack during the regular-season meeting. This set a school record for goals scored in a single game. She was named to NJFHCA 1st team Non-Public schools. Isabel also excels in basketball and softball and will finish her high school career with 11 varsity letters. The coaching staff cannot wait to see what she can accomplish at the next level.”

Congratulations to Isabel!
