315 East Concert

On February 19, Dwight-Englewood School (D-E) hosted chamber ensemble 315 East in concert at Hajjar Auditorium, which featured works by Poulenc (Sonata for flute and piano); Prokoviev (Sonata in D, Opus 94a for violin and piano); and Dvorak (Piano Quartet in E-flat, Opus 87 for violin, viola, cello and piano).

315 East showcases the exceptional talents of the following D-E Music Department faculty members, who both direct the School’s various instrumental ensembles and provide private music lesson instruction:

Annaliesa Place (violin):   Performing as a soloist and chamber musician across the US and abroad, Ms. Place has collaborated with Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel and Herbie Hancock. She has recorded albums with the Absolute Ensemble for Sony Classical and ECCO for EOne, and was featured in the Cleveland Orchestra’s first video-conference with Alan Gilbert.  She also directs the elite student ensemble StringJam at Dwight-Englewood School, which made its Carnegie Hall debut last year, and D-E’s String Society summer program.

Adda Kridler (viola):  A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Ms. Kridler is in strong demand as a musical collaborator and as a recording artist. She is a member of the Momenta Quartet and has served as the concertmaster of Miami’s Firebrand Chamber Orchestra and Washington, DC’s CounterPoint. An accomplished soloist, she has performed at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and at the Charlotte Chamber Music Series. Ms. Kridler has recorded for Seraphic Fire, Mapleshade, Mode and Naxos Records.

Diego Garcia (cello):  Mr. Garcia has enjoyed a distinguished career in the US and abroad as a recording artist and as an orchestral performer, chamber musician, soloist, conductor, and teacher. He has been the Director and a guest conductor of several youth and professional orchestras, the Director of the Eastman School of Music’s Youth Chamber Soloists, and a faculty member of the Eastman Community Music School. Together with his wife and violinist Ms. Annaliesa Place, Mr. Garcia also performs cello with their duo Bowstruck.

Karen Littlefield (piano):  Ms. Littlefield has performed as a soloist and as a member of The Herrick Ensemble throughout the US and the former Soviet Union. Ms. Littlefield studied chamber music with Lillian Fuchs and Raphael Bronstein and conducting with Claude Monteux. She is featured with her husband, flautist John Herrick Littlefield, on the CD French & Viennese Masterpieces produced by Juston Records. An accomplished teacher, she has been on the faculty of The Manhattan School of Music, NYU, and The Spence School and currently maintains an active practice as a private teacher.

John Herrick Littlefield (flute):  Mr. Littlefield has performed throughout the US, Europe and the former Soviet Union with ensembles and orchestras and as a soloist. Mr. Littlefield shared the principal desk with the first chair player of the Leningrad Philharmonia Orchestra for the first public performance in Leningrad after WW2 of Beethoven’s Fidelio. He can be heard as a featured recording artist on the Naxos and Juston Records labels. Mr. Littlefield’s articles have been published in Chamber Music Magazine and Flute Talk.  Mr. Littlefield is also the conductor of the Upper School Orchestra and Chair of the Arts Department at D-E.
