The winter doldrums were anything but, and spring was no exception, thanks to a vibrant visual and performing arts scene at D-E. This year’s Winter and Spring seasonal arts festivals—all of which featured live performances by instrumental, vocal, and orchestral ensembles and striking, politically-charged, and provocative artwork displays—offered arts lovers plenty of opportunities to appreciate the creativity and perseverance of our students across all three divisions.
Click on the following YouTube links to watch a few musical video clips, including the fantastic grand finale from the spring “Orchestra Extravaganza,” featuring the combined Upper School and Middle School orchestras performing “Symphonic Criminal,” an original composition by faculty member Diego Garcia and inspired by the music of Michael Jackson, as well as 20 minutes of the Upper School Orchestra performances.
Our Fifth Graders explored the topics of peer and parental pressure with “The True Test,” their original opera produced through the Met’s “Creating Original Opera” program, and now in its 30th year at the School. A gloriously ghoulish cast and dedicated crew made the Upper School’s musical production of The Addams Family a must-see. Memorable ballads, pop hits and a few classics were performed with heart and soul during the annual spring Jazz Rock concert. Finally, BRAVISSIMO! to our Parents’ Association Friends of the Arts Committee for organizing beautifully-decorated, delicious receptions for each and every one of these special events.
