Cum Laude Society Inducts Class of 2017 Honorees

Often considered one of the most meaningful events of the year, the annual Cum Laude Dinner, at which a very select group from the senior class is honored and inducted into this national honor society, took place on April 20.  The event held up to D-E School tradition with poignant and often entertaining commentary by members of the D-E faculty.  This year’s dinner also featured remarks by alumnus Ryan Goodman ’01, who reflected on his own experience when he was inducted, and spoke to those critical attributes beyond talent which can help to ensure ongoing personal success, most notably “grit” and hard work. English teacher Peter Bograd, who also serves as President of the D-E School Cum Laude Chapter, remarked: “The Cum Laude Society recognizes academic achievement in secondary schools for the purpose of promoting excellence (Areté), justice (Diké), and honor (Timé). Each and every one of the students being inducted tonight epitomizes these characteristics.”
