D-E's Theatre Department was a featured presenter in this year's All-School Opening Assembly! Students performed hit Broadway songs and officially announced this year's entire 2022-2023 production lineup, including the Upper and Middle Schools' collaborative Fall Play: Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Set in Athens and Fairyland, the classic comedy consists of five intertwining plots of love, magic, and mischief. Auditions were held in mid-September, and it was a spectacular show!. Theatre-goers can also look forward to the Upper School Winter Musical "Mamma Mia!" (in January 2022), and "Willy Wonka JR.", the Middle Spring Musical (in March 2023). We are ready and eager for another year of thespian excellence on D-E's stages! For more about the arts at D-E, click below.
D-E Athletics in the Upper School had a fantastic Fall 2022 sports season! The Bulldogs had achieved some notable victories and some losses, but always-memorable, team-building moments. Our Discover Medicine Upper School Club recently held an engrossing scientific (Sheep) Brain Dissection Session, in D-E's Hajjar STEM Center. Students learned about dissection best practices, brain neural paths and more, thanks to helpful, enthusiastic presenters from the club's leaders. Additionally, the D-E Model UN (MUN) Club recently presented a conference for nearly 50 Upper School students, introducing future MUN delegates to position papers drafting, presentations prep, and spirited policy debates on global issues such as the regulation of autonomous weapons, the use of GMOs, and preventing future global crises. These students are now both eager and better prepared for future, competitive collegiate sessions such as ILMUNC (Ivy League MUN Conference), being held later this school year. Math Days is an all-division annual event where all D-E students receive the same problem to illustrate and solve. Upper School students visited the Lower School to support problem-solving, and it was a wonderful moment for learning for all. Students first visualized their thinking and then brought math solutions process to life. Feeling Math-y? Here's the Math Days 2022 problem: There are kindergarteners and cows playing on the D-E Lower School playground. A teacher counts a total of 18 feet. How many kindergarteners and how many cows could there be? To learn more about traditions at D-E, click below!
