Our Discover Medicine Upper School Club recently held a slightly spooky but engrossingly scientific (Sheep) Brain Dissection Session, in D-E's Hajjar STEM Center. Students learned about dissection best practices, brain neural paths and more, thanks to helpful, enthusiastic presenters from the club's leaders. Additionally, the D-E Model UN (MUN) Club recently presented a conference for nearly 50 Upper School students, introducing future MUN delegates to position papers drafting, presentations prep, and spirited policy debates on global issues such as the regulation of autonomous weapons, the use of GMOs, and preventing future global crises. These students are now both eager and better prepared for future, competitive collegiate sessions such as ILMUNC (Ivy League MUN Conference), being held later this school year. D-E Spirit Week is a School-wide annual event held in mid-October, featuring daily events and fun community-building activities and programs. Students were encouraged to dress-up according to certain themes including "PJ Monday"; "Pink Out Wednesday"; and "Throwback Thursday." This year's Spirit Weck festivities also included spirited competitions between each Upper School class as students earned points for their wins in lunchtime soccer, volleyball, and spikeball games and relay-style competitions on Leggett Field (click here for video highlights); math problem contests; an Imperatore Library Maker Space "Haunted House" building contest (judged by our Lower School students); and photography and digital art competitions. Congratulations to the Class of 2023 for winning the most Spirit Week points!
In the Middle School, a Fall Pep Rally and relay games were held in Myrna B. Sherman Gymnasium before an exciting Middle School Volleyball Team match. And in the Lower School, students enjoyed dressing-up in their favorite D-E spirit wear and blue, gold and white, for "D-E Day" Best of all, many of the events held during D-E Spirit Week 2022 included a fundraising component designed to support hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico and cancer research; students raised more than $5000 in all.
