D-E's Theatre Department was a featured presenter in this year's All-School Opening Assembly! Students performed hit Broadway songs and officially announced this year's entire 2022-2023 production lineup, including the Upper and Middle Schools' collaborative Fall Play: Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Set in Athens and Fairyland, the classic comedy consists of five intertwining plots of love, magic, and mischief. Auditions were held in mid-September, and we look forward to early November performances. Theatre-goers can also look forward to the Upper School Winter Musical "Mamma Mia!" (in December 2022), and "Willy Wonka JR.", the Middle Spring Musical (in March 2023). We are ready and eager for another year of thespian excellence on D-E's stages! D-E's annual Upper School Clubs & Activities Fair was recently held on Leggett Field, featuring +70 student club leaders ready to recruit fellow classmates for this new school year. Service-oriented clubs like Girl Up promote women's leadership, while publication clubs like Calliope and Spectrum offer opportunities for students to submit art and writing. US students can gather around identity with clubs like Chinese Culture Club, the Gender and Sexuality Association (GSA), and more. In the Middle School, students have opportunities to sign-up for a range of clubs that meet during activity periods, including five different MS Robotics teams, Knitting Club, Innovation Club, Movie Club, and more. D-E dubs are in full-gear, and we are excited about their future events and initiatives! Click below to learn more about D-E Clubs.
Third graders in D-E Lower School have facilitated for more than eight years the "Third Graders Making a Difference"project to promote community and service-learning. The students take on a new project each month finding accessible ways to both contribute and learn about who they are helping. This month, they're busy gathering shoes for "Soles 4 Souls", a non-profit that upcycles shoes for families in need. Students learn to see themselves as active members of their community both inside and outside D-E! Here's to our third grade heroes!
