8th grade students enrolled in the Middle School’s “In the News” elective class recently enjoyed an exciting, inspiring field trip to New York City. Focused on current events, “In the News” challenges students to study various topics that appear in the news. During this field trip, students were able to see behind the scenes of filming Good Morning America and World News Tonight. Juju Chang, a journalist for ABC News and D-E parent, together with instrumental help from her assistant Unice Kim, provided a tour of the various sets and rooms used. The students also watched the taping of these shows, where they met Michael Strahan, Robin Roberts, Byron Pitts, David Muir, and others. In addition to learning about the extensive work that goes into creating news programs, the students also enjoyed a graffiti and street art tour and workshop in Brooklyn, visited Central Park, explored the city’s myriad food and general offerings. Here’s to great hands-on learning experiences!
