Sixth Graders Learn About “Green” Design at Meadowlands Environment Center
On Wednesday, October 23, Grade 6 students headed off campus on a lovely fall day to the Meadowlands Science Center. In connection with their science class, students engaged with both direct instruction and hands-on work addressing the concepts of sustainable design, and why these are important in our communities.
“The field trip was very interactive,” says Aadya Jain ’31. “It didn’t feel like a school day and I learned a lot about sustainability.”
Students investigated alternative energy and renewable resources by touring the Environmental Center’s LEED-certified science building, and then were challenged to demonstrate their knowledge by selecting materials and constructing a 3-D model of their own “green” home.
We loved the smart designs they came up with!
