Swartley Gallery Senior Spotlight 2025 Exhibit Reception Highlights

Apr 30, 2025 | Art & Design, Recent News

This afternoon, the Swartley Gallery hosted a reception of “The Senior Spotlight”—the final exhibit of the Swartley Gallery Series for this school year. It was a bittersweet swan song of sorts for the Class of 2025, who have taken AP Studio Art. For this series, students got to select their favorite pieces from current and past lines of inquiry (LOI). “I wanted to do something that was very ‘me,’” says Casey Law ’25, whose 2D collection of female figures (a Renaissance-inspired painting juxtaposed with modern art) represents bodily autonomy in a world that has long seen women solely as an object of desire. Pape Touré ’25 describes his digital art as a “commentary on black hair stereotypes.” It includes a self-portrait portraying his hair as an ocean with sea life in addition to a digital screen positioned alongside it to show his creative process. Elilee Ram ’25 says her LOI was internal and external perceptions of someone’s high school experience. The work she showcased features a colorful face she describes as “what I see looking back at me” when she looks in a mirror. Minka Brainin ’25 displayed the dresses she designed for the HOPE Fashion Show as well as a few other cherished works. She says she enjoyed that this exhibit was an “opportunity to celebrate yourself.” Cheers to our senior artists as they prepare for their next chapters!
