Art in Action Aims to Inspire and Have an Impact

May 22, 2025 | Art & Design, Recent News, School Life Highlights

In an example of cross-divisional collaboration that beautifully illustrates imagination, the Art in Action student organization, advised by Rachel Brusky of the US/MS Art & Design Department, repurposed a tree they created as part of the set design of the HOPE Fashion Show in April for the Lower School. The event’s theme, Whimsical Fairytale, was brought to life by members of the HOPE: Fashion with a Purpose club and advisor Caitlyn Young, US Art & Design Faculty. And now, the tree, whose trunk was constructed from packaging material, has been artfully set up in the lobby of Drapkin Hall, coinciding with a LS unit on fairies.

“We are one of the few visual arts clubs involved in school-wide projects,” said Grace Tomin ’26. She continued, “I enjoy engaging in these meaningful projects.”

Art in Action also recently took part in decorating the windows of the Campus Center for the Bulldogs Are Beautiful Annual Fund campaign. For the windows project, Grace was joined by fellow artists Lilah Carroll ’27, Ripley Chang ’27, Sarah Chun ’27, Mara Gualtieri-Horowitz ’26, Maleah Liao ’27, Krithi Mitta ’27, Nisha Rajan ’26, and Kaitlyn Tee ’27.

“The goal of Art in Action is to create art and support the making of art… and to help inspire others inside and outside the D-E community,” said Ms. Brusky. Nisha added that being involved in the organization is “a way to have an impact on the whole community.” Thank you Art in Action for beautifying D-E in imaginative, impactful ways!
