Reflections from Preeti Fibiger P ’24

Dear D-E Families and Friends,

I’m writing during these last few weeks in my role serving as Interim Head of School, which ends on June 30. This latest issue of D-E Today comes to you while our campus is markedly serene after a busy, happily buzzing series of memorable events wrapped up the 2024-2025 academic year.

Just a few weeks ago we experienced many wonderful D-E traditions, including the Lower School Kindergarten Zoo, the Middle School Living Wax Museum, MAGIC, Athletics’ End of Year Sports Banquet, and our All-School End of Year Assembly (captured on the front cover), just to name a few. Our Moving Up Ceremonies for the Class of 2032 and the Class of 2029 symbolized exciting milestones for the Fifth Graders and Eighth Graders, respectively. Commencement, held on Sunday, June 1, was especially poignant, as we celebrated the many achievements and promising future for the Class of 2025.

During Commencement, I shared my reflections from visits to Senior Advisories, including that our newest graduates are solution-oriented; they have things to say – and they matter; and they know how to disagree–respectfully and constructively. These admirable attributes are exactly what the world needs more of. They also are fully emblematic of our “Profile of a Graduate.” Moreover, as I also shared during Commencement, I believe that “truth — real truth — requires all of those skills: listening, challenging, re-thinking. It’s not always neat or convenient. And it’s certainly not instant… Truth takes time. It takes effort. And often, it takes others… Because if enough people commit to that kind of truth-seeking — with humility, curiosity, and respect — there’s no challenge we can’t take on.”

During my tenure as Interim Head of School I was continually struck by how our community embraces the aims of our mission and core values by personalizing these foundational statements in new and inspiring ways. When you look through the following pages of this issue of D-E Today or visit us online, I hope you, too, are inspired by our students, faculty/staff, and alumni: they are representative of our mission and core values in action!

Finally, please join me in welcoming Dr. James Calleroz White (“Dr. CW”) who will be joining us as our next Head of School effective July 1! Dr. CW was able to come to D-E for events this spring, including our All-Community Weekend in late April, which included the very successful Bulldog Bash and our Spring Carnival. We can’t wait to see his family (and all of you) on campus in September.

Thank you for being a part of our ‘community of learners’!

Warmly,

Preeti Fibiger P ’24
