Happy First Day of School! After stepping back onto the D-E campus this beautiful morning, students in every division greeted their new teachers, posed for pictures, and were warmly welcomed by their respective principals and deans, faculty/staff, and our new Head of School, Dr. James Calleroz White. Upper School (US) students were busy today with orientation, class meetings, and individual photos. As is D-E tradition, the Freshmen class participated in the ceremonial “bell-ringing” to mark the beginning of the new school year. Later, the Class of 2026 painted the rock in the Upper Lots, signifying their final year at D-E. US Juniors Sophia Sacks ’27 and Ella Gabriel ’27 said this year they were looking forward to reconnecting with friends, meeting their teachers, and seeing what their classes are like. “I hope I do well!” exclaimed Sophia. In the Middle School, small groups huddled together around campus as part of team-building exercises, during which they learned about one another’s interests and goals. Eighth grader Amelie M. ’30 said she’s looking forward to “not just growing academically but also mentally, with support from my friends and teachers.” Classmate Stella R. ’30 said she is excited about winter and spring sports, trying out for soccer and basketball as well as the Fall Play. Meanwhile, excited Lower School students greeted new LS Principal James Choi and gave hugs all around. May this be a fruitful year for all our lifelong learners!
