D-E Senior Shares Her Self-Published Book with PreK 4

In a continuation of the “Small Story” book project initiated by Grade 11 Dean Tuc for her Creative Writing class, Upper School students joined the PreK 4 class in the Lower School (LS) for a lesson on author pages. “In their small groups, students will learn about their P4 collaborators and craft an ‘About the Author’ paragraph, followed by collaborative artwork for each page,” explained Dean Tuc. This visit also featured a storytime with Chloe Yoon ’26, who self-published a children’s book titled, “Beautiful Scar,” which began as a memoir draft she wrote in English class and refined for her 10th-grade portfolio. “As her teacher that semester, I witnessed her thoughtful process of revising a deeply personal story, and it has been a joy to see it evolve into a published children’s book,” said Dean Tuc. Curious LS students were engaged in the reading and asked many questions about the story and its characters. “This is my childhood story, and I wanted to express it so that all of you could understand it,” explained Chloe, a “D-E Lifer” who described the storytime as an amazing experience. “I could really see that the whole class enjoyed my story… and felt a special connection with them,” she said. Added Dean Tuc, “By showing and reading her book to [the PreK 4 class], Chloe is reinforcing the idea of this joint project—that writing and telling stories is for everyone.”
