Seventh graders recently took a field trip to the world-renowned Cold Spring Harbor Lab, in Laurel Hollow, New York. Mr. Larrowe P’30, P’32, 7th Grade Science Teacher, and Mr. De Los Santos, 7th Grade Math/Science Bridge Teacher, organized the trip, which was designed to enhance students’ understanding of Mendelian genetics, the pattern of inheritance encoded by DNA. The idea was to “move students out of traditional learning and into authentic scientific investigation using real research tools and methods,” said Mr. Larrowe. “It connected Mendelian genetics to modern biotechnology, allowing students to think, question, and work like practicing scientists.” We applaud such innovation in action in our Middle School!
