To launch its Anatomy of a Human Project, 7th grade faculty recently facilitated an Anatomy of Human Consortium, during which several D-E parents graciously took time out of their busy days in the medical field to visit the Middle School and share about their medical specialties. Dr. Robert Vitti (Ophthalmology), Dr. Michael Cho (Cardiology), Dr. Zeyad Baker (Pediatrics), Dr. Maya Fakhoury (Nephrology), Dr. Alizabeth Acevedo (Anesthesiology), Dr. Jaehon Kim (Orthopedics), and Dr. Ruby Kim (Pain Management) brought in anatomical models to assist in their interactive presentations. Students were locked in during the individual sessions and asked astute questions. “As a team, we felt this was a meaningful way for students to learn from real professionals in our community and generate excitement for the upcoming project,” said Mr. Larrowe P’30, P’32, 7th Grade Science Teacher & Team Leader. The project, which culminates in an exhibition open to all D-E families, is interdisciplinary, combining their study of body systems with literary characters, data, and historical analyses based on “The Distance Between Us,” a memoir by Reyna Grande. Kudos to our 7th graders for their rapt attention and engagement while learning about the wonders of the human body!
