The alumni office has learned of the passing of Adrienne Mann Cohen, of Languna Beach, CA, on January 4, 2018, at the age of 82. After Dwight Adrienne earned her undergraduate degree in art history from Brandeis University in 1957 and went on to teach art in New Jersey public schools. In 1961, she married Harry Cohen, who predeceased her in 2013. The couple lived for a time in Palo Alto, CA, where her husband conducted sleep and dream research at Stanford University and she worked as a research assistant at the Stanford Center for Advanced Studies in Behavioral Sciences. Moving to Laguna Beach in 1972, Adrienne earned master’s in counseling from Cal State Fullerton. According to an obituary printed in the New York Times on January 10: “She spent many years as a youth group advisor for several Orange County Reform Jewish congregations, and as the advisor for the Southern California Federation of Temple Youth, the umbrella organization of all Reform Jewish youth groups in Southern California. Mrs. Cohen had a private counseling practice in Laguna Beach and worked for over a decade for the Human Options Laguna Beach women’s shelter. For several years after her retirement, she continued to give to the community, volunteering as a docent at the Laguna Beach Art Museum. She enjoyed opera, theater, and ballet, and was an artist in her own right, working in sculpture, painting and weaving. She is survived by her brother, Jerome Mann; her two sons, Jonathan and Sascha Cohen; her granddaughters, Alexandra and Gabriella Cohen, as well as a multitude of friends and admirers. She gave much to many. Hers was a big heart.”
