I, with my sister, developed and maintained a nail art program at a local rehabilitation center. I have been doing this for four years, and during every summer and holiday break, I create nail art for the residents. We have a book of nail art showcasing designs for all occasions. The residents enjoy looking through the book and choosing the designs they like. Manicures, although they may seem trivial, really do make an impact on the lives of the residents. It’s nice to see them feeling beautiful and young again, looking down admiringly at their painted pink and red nails. Our weekly manicures give the ladies something to look forward to. We even have male residents who come and watch the design creation. I’ve developed genuine connections with some of our regulars, and I’m always happy to spend a day off from school with them. The personal connections I have fostered with each of my regulars, and even some newbies, keeps me motivated to go out and do some good in the world, one manicure at a time!
