Our Annual All-School Assembly Hit the High Notes

Sep 26, 2024 | Our Community of Learners

Let’s hear it for our D-E community! Leggett Field was awash in sunshine, music, laughter, and excitement during our annual All-School Assembly, held on September 12, 2024. After welcome remarks from Interim Head of School Preeti Fibiger, we heard energizing performances from our Jazz Rock ensemble, a joyful song from Lower School students, and D-E student leaders sharing words of inspiration about their involvement in the arts, athletics, robotics, and more.

Following Jazz Rock’s opening performance, Lower School student Saira Dixit 36 playfully quizzed her fellow students on D-E’s values, and Middle School student Kaiden Aquino ’29  shared an anecdote on his experiences thus far as a member of the D-E community. Next, Chef Alex brought his entire culinary team onstage and shared some food for thought on always striving to try new things.

Lower School students then swayed on their colorful lawn blankets to a sweet rendition of Fred Rogers’ “It’s You I Like” by a group of their LS peers (first and second graders), led by music teachers Lisa Dove and Fiona Crawford.

Student representatives for Athletics included Radha Munver ’25 for tennis; Maya Jarrett ’25 for volleyball; Leah Hong ’25 and Lilly Baumgarten ’25 for field hockey; Jack Park ’25, Lucas Brown ’25, Riley Kooper ’25, and Emma Hsu ’25 for soccer; and Musashi Shabazz ’25 for cross country. In her remarks, Radha reflected on the “joy of being part of a team.”

Drama Club leaders Hannah Carroll ’25 and Lauren Chu ’25 spoke next on finding “friends that cross grades and divisions” after having joined the theater department. They also introduced a vocal solo by Middle School student Ella Gorcie ’25, as performed in last year’s production of Into the Woods.

Iris Fung ’29 and Sehyun Chang ’29 from the Middle School Robotics team as well as Dia Tanwar ’25 and Sebastian Chang ’27 from the Debate Team stepped up next to convey the sense of belonging that comes with connecting with students who have similar interests.

Following a fun D-E trivia game with principals Kim Lalli (US), Jonathan Davis (MS), and Susan Abramson (Interim Co-Principal, LS)—with the W going to Mr. Davis!—Student Body President Kyle Lee ’25, a lifelong learner at D-E since age 3, gave remarks encouraging all students to get involved in “something new” at the School.

The assembly concluded with a high-spirited performance by Jazz Rock that had students and teachers on their feet, dancing and singing along. Overall, it was a fantastic way to kick off the ’24-’25 school year!
