During an Upper School Assembly earlier this week, the D-E Political Discussion Club hosted a panel talk with Josh Gottheimer, the U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District and a D-E parent. Club members Asher Cohen ’25, Rebecca Kreynin ’25, and Ripley Golden ’26 asked questions such as how Mr. Gottheimer got into politics (he interned as a 16-year-old for former NJ Senator Frank Lautenberg and later served as a speechwriter for President Bill Clinton), which issues he’s passionate about (making childcare more affordable, among others), and how to have productive discourse in a divided government (“Always put the country over partisan politics.”). In closing, Mr. Gottheimer encouraged students to look for ways to get involved in public service—and to not miss the opportunity to vote for the first time! Thank you Congressman Gottheimer for sharing your insights with our D-E community!
