VDay at D-E Inspires Women and Allies to ‘Rise’

VDay is an annual tradition and fundraiser at D-E, based on a national global movement that aims to end violence against women and girls. This year’s event, held in Hajjar Auditorium last week, featured spoken-word pieces and dance and vocal performances, and it raised $635 for the Women’s Rights Information Center. According to student leader and event co-producer Georgia Unger ’25, recent U.S. events inspired this year’s theme of “Rise,” which coincidentally aligned with the greater VDay organization’s theme.

“This year was special in that we had much more performance-based pieces—singing and dancing as well as pieces by senior students—than usual,” says Georgia. “I think it was this combination that really made the show stand out…We, as always, had a dedicated group of students who really cared about the issues surrounding VDay.” To conclude the event and in recognition of Georgia and event co-producer Minka Brainin ’25’s final VDay at D-E, after having participated for the past four years, they shared a piece together, Georgia says, “to provoke thoughts and laughs.”
