The celebration of South Asian culture continued this week during the Middle School (MS) Assembly, where the focus was on India and the diversity within its 28 states. Following a lovely rendition of the national song of India, students learned about Bollywood (it produces more films annually than Hollywood!), the global influence of Indian music, how the country is among the most linguistically diverse in the world, regional cuisines, and what festivals are celebrated. MS deans and advisors, respectively, were then quizzed on these facts in a lively “Battle of the Grades,” where Mr. James Aitken and his 7th graders and Ms. Hyo Kim’s Advisory came out on top! The assembly culminated with dance performances by faculty/staff as well as students dressed in traditional Indian attire. Attendees were also treated to delicious mango lassi on the way out of the auditorium. Thanks to all the D-E parents, faculty, and staff who helped put this fun event together!
