Grade 6 students gave their Rome Day presentations in Hajjar Auditorium this week, following an immersive unit on the Roman Empire. “This showcase is the culmination of weeks of work by our 6th graders,” says Middle School History Teacher Sam Wallman. “Through this process, they refined a number of crucial skills… and bonded over topics they are equally passionate about.” The group presentations included student-created slideshows, videos, fashion displays, battle maps, 3D models, and surprise trivia games for unsuspecting parents in the audience. Topics touched on different aspects of Roman culture and history, such as customs and clothing representative of different social classes, science and technology, architectural elements of the Roman Colosseum, gladiator life, and military battle strategies and tactics. Rome Day was a great demonstration of teamwork. And, says Mr. Wallman, “Collaboration is the way we get through life.”
