LS Robotics Attends FLL World Championship in Houston

Our Lower School Robotics Team Ocean Animals recently represented New Jersey at the First LEGO League World Championship in Houston. “At the Explore level, they joined 40 teams from around the world to showcase their LEGO models, posters, and ideas,” explains Lower School STEM Teacher and Coach Yi Li. “The team worked hard to improve their designs, test their models, and prepare to share their work… they exchanged ideas with teams from other states and countries, learning about new designs and creative ways to solve problems.” Third grader Diego H. ’34, who participated in the event, describes the team’s project: “We built a submarine with a grabber, an elevator, and a conveyor belt that all worked to bring injured ocean animals to our rescue center.”  When presenting to the judges, Diego adds that the team’s robots worked as they should, and the judges appeared to enjoy them. His teammate in Houston Vivienne Z. ’34 joined the robotics team last year and admits that she was previously unaware of robotics competitions. “This has been an incredible trip,” she says. “I got to see so many talented students and the amazing work they’re doing… and now I finally understand what robotics competitions are all about. I’m really inspired to keep working in robotics.” Nice work, Bulldog Bots!
