Mar 6, 2024 | Recent News

More than 20 of our 8th grade students went to Monmouth University recently to compete in the NJ National History Contest! This year’s theme was on “turning points in history”. Projects included exhibits, documentaries, performances, websites, and papers. Six (6) students from D-E advanced, including Lucy M. ‘28  for her documentary on the Printing Press; Jasper B. ‘28  for his on the impacts of World War I; Benji B. ‘28 on the growth of the automobile, and Owen L. ‘28 and James R. ‘28 on the invention of microchips. Exhibits that advanced include Abby B. ‘28 for the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and Andrea C. ‘28 and Alexa W. ‘28 for their exhibit on evolution. These students will advance to the state contest in May.  All 8th graders participated in our own Dwight-Englewood history fair last December. In the words of Middle School History faculty member Gautham Akula, “this project exemplifies the Middle School’s emphasis on student choice and voice, and project-based learning”!
