“Tech Dependence: Turned On / Tuned Out” Feb. 21 Parent Ed. Evening Event with John Kriger

The Parent Education Committee invites all D-E parents/guardians and their guests to an evening event featuring John Kriger, acclaimed author of Turned On / Tuned Out: A Practical Guide to Understanding and Managing Tech Dependence, on Thursday, February 21, at 7:00 – 8:30 PM in Hajjar Auditorium. This timely, cutting edge presentation on “Tech Dependence” provides vital information on the potential negative impact of technology on developing brains and behavior. Discover how texting, social networking, gaming and electronic interactions can contribute to anxiety, depression, decreased social skills and violence. See how tech use can increase the potential for substance abuse and illicit activities. Learn steps to immediately decrease acting out, improve family interactions, enhance social skills and decrease the potential for high-risk behaviors.

By attending this session you will be able to:

1.  Identify three ways today’s technology contributes to anxiety, depression and acting out;

2.  Describe two ways video games can change brain function potentially contributing to high risk behavior;

3.  Provide three ways social emotional learning can be enhanced; and,

4.  Outline four ways to immediately improve the social health of children and families.
