Congratulations Lisa Wittner, Marisol Diaz: Fulbright Awardees!

Apr 3, 2024 | Recent News, Seeking Excellence

WOW & Congratulations to D-E Faculty members Lisa Wittner and Marisol Diaz, BOTH of whom have been named as Fulbright Awardees!  Lisa, D-E Director of Social and Emotional Learning, will  travel to Nepal this summer and work with a local school and NGO, sharing knowledge about social-emotional learning (SEL) and fostering meaningful connections across communities in the US and Nepal. Out of 100’s of applicants to the grant program, Lisa was one of only 20 award recipients.

Marisol, Chair of D-E’s Art & Design Department, won a four-week Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad award to Thailand for this upcoming summer.  Marisol will be one of only 16 selected educators coming from secondary schools around the US, and will be addressing “Transformational Thailand: Toward a Sustainable and Inclusive Economy and Society, with a focus on the  Bio-Circular Green Economy”, centering on environmental awareness and biodiversity. Marisol’s project will be on Thai-inspired Eco-Poetic/ Social Dialectic Art curriculum.

Fulbrighters expand their professional networks, often continuing collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for forging future partnerships between schools and institutions. Upon returning to their classrooms in the US, they share their stories and often become active supporters of international exchange, encouraging colleagues and students to go abroad. Fulbright alumni include 62 Nobel Prize laureates, 89 Pulitzer Prize recipients, 78 MacArthur Fellows, and 41 who have served as a head of state or government.

We could not be more proud of both Lisa and Marisol!
