On Saturday, February 1, D-E hosted and participated in the MathCounts Bergen/Hudson Chapter Competition. More than 200 middle school students from over 20 schools converged on the D-E campus and took part. “The competition consists of multiple rounds, with students working both individually and as a team to answer challenging math problems,” explains Ms. Julia Tazelaar, MS Math and Science Teacher, and advisor to the group. Former longtime D-E Math Department Chair John King also provides advisory assistance. The team consisted of Dylan C. ’31, Samar H. ’31, Ken E. ’30, Konner J. ’29, Samir P. ’29, and Ishaan T. ’29. Ken, who participated last year, says, “It was exciting to collaborate with our team and do problems I’d never learned before.” First-year competitor Samar says he also enjoyed working together to solve the harder equations. “We encouraged each other to do the best we could… and this boosted our morale overall,” he says. Congrats to our MS ‘mathletes’ & thank you to everyone at D-E who made this event possible!
