A BeLOVEd D-E Tradition: The LS Annual Valentine’s Day Concerts

Feb 14, 2025 | D-E Traditions, Recent News

So sweet! Our Lower School (LS) students donned bright smiles and their best red and pink outfits to sing their hearts out during the Kindergarten and First Grade Valentine’s Day concerts in Hajjar Auditorium. Attended by D-E teachers, staff, and LS parents, the concerts today included brief remarks from LS Interim Co-Principals Julia Calantone and Susan Abramson as well as LS Music Teacher Ms. Lisa Dove, who mused that, “Our students will be singing with their hearts because they have very big hearts.”

With Ms. Dove on piano, D-E’s Kindergarten class sang “All My Creation,” by Martha Redbone; “Farfallina,” an Italian children’s song about a butterfly; “Mail Myself to You,” by Woody Guthrie; and Chris Martin’s recently released “All My Love.”

Later in the day, 1st Grade students took the stage to sing several songs with international flair—including “Jambo!”, a call and response song by Ella Jenkins; “Little Silver Moon Boat,” a Chinese folk song; and “Palo Palito,” a Dominican song to which students used sticks to keep time. The concert concluded with old favorite “Our House,” by Graham Nash. Programs were decorated with valentine drawings that students made. The students also made small clay vessels in Ms. Maloney’s art class, and these gifts were sent home with parents.“This is one of my favorite days in the Lower School,” exclaimed Ms. Calantone. We couldn’t agree more—and we’re grateful for all the love and support from our D-E families! Happy Valentine’s Day, D-E!
