MADE (Manga and Anime at D-E) and the Drama Club recently hosted actress Erica Schroeder P’26,’28, best known for voicing numerous anime and video game characters, to answer questions for students interested in acting. “I’ve always loved the idea of voice acting,” says Jonah Peirez ’25, who led the Q&A session at Hulst House. “I only ever find the opportunity to talk to voice actors at conventions, so to be able to host this panel at D-E was an amazing thing to be able to do.” Ms. Schroeder gave great advice on career planning (“I suggest writing down your goals”), theater work (“People do respect theater training”), agents vs. managers (“Agents open doors; managers may open more”), work ethic (“Don’t be late and value communication”), sound treating vs. soundproofing (“treating is less expensive but can be just as effective”), and reels vs. demos (“Reels are a collection of clips from professional jobs; demos have not aired”). In terms of finding acting opportunities, she offers these words: “It’s literally a numbers game…Once you’re cast for one gig, the ball gets rolling.” And keep in mind, she adds, “There’s never a ‘moment’ of arrival…You can learn to hone your craft anytime.” Thank you to Ms. Schroeder for her time and good luck to D-E’s aspiring actors!
