After a welcome message from Mrs. Lopez and a meditative “Mindful Minute,” teachers, staff, and fifth-grade helpers gave examples of respectful and disrespectful behaviors. “We hope everyone will practice respect every day,” said Lena M. ’33. “We look forward to seeing what it looks like in the Lower School!” Next, Ms. Simone and a couple of students provided some background on Hispanic Heritage Month as well as some notable Latinos, and then four students shared a bit about their Hispanic culture. Following September birthday announcements, Ms. Crawford and Ms. Dove led a sing-a-long of “Sun Sun Babae,” a song with Latin-American roots. “It was a beautiful reflection of our students’ voices, values, and cultures,” said Mrs. Lopez of the assembly. “Thank you to everyone who helped make it so special!”
