In a culmination of the Sixth Grade Food & Identity Unit that began two weeks ago, students recently presented their hard work across their MESH (Math, English, Science, and History) classes to D-E families in Hajjar Auditorium. The presentations were followed by a food-tasting celebration that was graciously and generously facilitated by our Parents’ Association Class Rep parent volunteers. The students’ presentations included essays and slideshows about meals that are culturally significant to individual students, data graphs based on their respective food logs, and infographics representing the origin of ingredients. The unit showed how foods can serve as a bridge between different cultures. This was further demonstrated during the festival in the Wharton Lessin Dining Hall, featuring a myriad of multicultural bites. Congrats to our Middle School (MS) for celebrating diversity through cuisine! Kudos to all our MS faculty members and Chef Alex and D-E Dining Services team for their involvement in this cross-curricular program’s success. Finally, thank you to our D-E PA volunteers for your partnership and enthusiasm in this important MS learning opportunity.
