High winds didn’t ruffle the spirit of community that beamed across Leggett Field from late morning into the afternoon during the annual Spring Carnival! This year’s event—an annual collaboration between D-E Student Activities and the Parents’ Association— included tables representing all Upper School clubs and organizations; DJ music and live performances from members of Jazz Rock; kids’ games, crafts, face painting, and bounce houses; the Marketing Club’s photo booth, and cross-divisional displays from recent class projects and exhibits.
“It’s special,” said Sally Tiemann P’28,’30, PA Vice President, Middle School, who volunteered at the carnival. “This is one of our all-community events, and it’s so lovely to see everyone come out—we had a great turnout!”
Interim Head of School Preeti Fibiger P’24 and incoming Head of School Dr. James Calleroz White were among those who mingled in the crowd, and Chef Alex Stanko and our Cater to You team prepared burgers, hot dogs, and chicken tenders for hungry carnival goers in the Wharton Lessin Dining Hall.
“What I love about the Spring Carnival is that it’s a truly emblematic event for D-E,” said Debbie Rivera Murphy ’11, Dean of Student Life. “It includes all three divisions, and student leaders get to show off what their clubs have to offer.” At the Drama Club table, leaders Hannah Carroll ’25 and Lauren Chu ’25 invited guests to view a Broadway Playbill on a screen and guess the play. Meanwhile, several affinity groups set out cookie samples and other treats representing their culture. It was a wonderful whirlwind of D-Elights!
